Screaming a lie does not make it true. It doesn’t make it any less than a lie, no matter how loudly it is delivered. And a boldly professed lie should evoke an even bolder response. It demands a firm rebuke followed by the truth. That response must clearly expose the falsehood for what it is, a complete and utter absurdity, an ignorant fabrication, a vapid separation from reality and a diabolical seed designed to lure others into the liar’s nonsensical world. The response should stop the lie dead in its tracks and prevent any further diminishment of critical thought. The person perpetrating the lie, especially when they try to force the listener to agree to their deceit, needs to be quickly corrected so they know it is not believed. Being grounded in the truth is essential so that a lie can be snuffed out no matter how strongly it is said.
On the floor of the U.S. Senate on January 29th, 2025, Bernie Sanders loudly berated Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and asked him to throw away any sense of reality with the ridiculous assertion that healthcare is a right. Repeatedly, Sanders yelled at RFK Jr., imploring him to agree to such an absurd notion. As disgraceful as that grandstanding was, the lack of hard truth in response was even more disappointing. The old Marxist-inspired slogan should be expected from Bernie Sanders; a dose of reality should have been quickly administered. I am aware of RFK Jr.’s vocal limitations (funny how Democrats cry foul if an injustice is done to someone with a disability but are insensitive to it when it suits them), however, he still had a microphone and the moment. I applaud RFK Jr. for how he exposed Senator Sanders to the taking of money from drug companies, but Mr. Kennedy should have been well prepared for this worn false narrative from a usual suspect like Bernie. Granted, it can be daunting to address a spontaneously hurled fib, but a quick verbal dowsing is required to quench such hellfire before it spreads. While the old saying, a lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes, may apply, a nominee for such a position should have the arrows in his quiver for such an assault. RFK Jr. came up woefully short in responding to such a well-documented false narrative. That putrid slogan has been repeated so many times with designs to convince the undiscerning. We may never know if RFK Jr. just couldn’t muster up the words, or he is ignorant of the meaning, or that he may half-believe such a deceptive phrase. Whether it was ignorance, confusion, or something else that prevented him from countering the faulty premise, it left that stench lying on the floor of the Senate.
Here is my response to that brutal attack on our sensibilities the American people so desperately need and deserve.
