Recent conversations within my circles have been about ChatGPT. If you are not familiar with it and OpenAI, you may want to start getting familiar with this growing technology...…well, not too familiar. It could get a bit scary!
A little over 10 years ago, I wrote an article called “Following A Madman”. I recently posted it on this venue and certainly encourage you to read it. I warned of an authoritarian state paired with technological advances. The article mentions the extent to which technology was used by the Third Reich. Although archaic compared to today’s world, the reach it had was bone-chilling. Well, fast-forward to today and see what the World Economic Forum crowd in Davos has in mind for AI and you! It is going to be the fight of a lifetime.
You know the old game “just asking for a friend”, right? Well, I became that friend to a colleague who has been tampering with this growing technology. Before you think poorly of me, I want to give a brief explanation of why I’m a bit apprehensive to play with this AI tool. BECAUSE IT CAN QUICKLY TAKEOVER YOUR EVERY DEVICE!!
Okay, so maybe I am being a bit paranoid, but watch Jordan Peterson’s take on YouTube about ChatGPT and just maybe you will understand my apprehension. You may be interacting with AI and not even know it. It could be that voice on the other side of the phone or the social media post you just read. Who knows, that new roommate may even be……..uh oh!
I have often said technology is much like any tool; it all depends on whose hands it is in. But, what will it do once it starts thinking and acting on its own? Think of HAL 9000 in 2001: A Space Odyssey. My thought is, the more we feed it good foundational principles, you know, Bill of Rights kind of stuff, Biblical principles, and such, just maybe it will play nice. Can I get an app for that?
So, I’d like to give you a little glimpse into the world of ChatGPT. Some of it may seem cool and even show signs of cautious optimism, but then again, if you really think ahead, it could easily go awry.
Here are excerpts from my suggestions to my friend on what to say to Mr. AI:
